About the role


The Architecture & Governance Lead is accountable for defining, operating, and continuously improving the organisation’s enterprise architecture and technology governance framework. This role provides strategic leadership and oversight across all architecture domains, ensuring that architectural practices, standards, and decisions consistently support business strategy, risk management objectives, and portfolio investment priorities.


The Architecture & Governance Lead adopts and follows the existing enterprise-wide governance structures that guide technology direction, prioritisation, and compliance, enabling coherent decision-making across products, platforms, and operational domains. Working closely with senior business and technology leaders, the role ensures alignment between long-term technology strategy and enterprise objectives, maintains visibility of architectural risk and technical debt, and drives disciplined adoption of target-state architectures and roadmaps.


This position also leads and develops the architecture community, overseeing Enterprise Architects, Solution Architects, and domain specialist to promote architectural maturity, knowledge sharing, and consistent application of principles and standards.


The Architecture & Governance Lead is ultimately responsible for ensuring that the organisation’s technology landscape remains cohesive, adaptable, secure, and strategically positioned to support transformation and sustained business value.


Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Enterprise Architecture Governance Leadership
  • Support and maintain the organisation’s enterprise architecture vision, principles, and frameworks that guide technology decisions across the enterprise.
  • Ensure existing governance processes are followed to ensure solution designs align with enterprise standards, business strategy, and long-term technology roadmaps.
  • Develop and maintain target-state architectures and transition roadmaps for key business domains.
  • Drive architectural standardisation, ensuring consistency, interoperability, and reusability across the enterprise portfolio.
  • Establish, own, and continuously improve the enterprise architecture governance framework, including decision rights, control mechanisms, escalation pathways, and compliance processes.
  • Set and support enterprise-wide architectural principles, standards, and reference models, ensuring they are governed, versioned, and consistently applied across all technology domains.
  • Provide authoritative oversight of architectural compliance, granting approvals, exemptions, and waivers based on defined governance criteria.
  • Ensure the architecture function delivers traceability from strategy to standards to solution designs, enabling disciplined governance and auditability.
  • Partner with executives, business leaders, and platform owners to translate corporate strategy into enterprise-wide technology capabilities.
  • Influence strategic planning by identifying how technology can enable new business models, improve competitiveness, and drive transformation.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders, providing thought leadership on digital trends, enterprise technology strategy, and risk management.
  • Oversee the architectural assessment of major investments, business cases, and program proposals, ensuring alignment to target-state architecture and enterprise priorities.


Skills & Experience:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience); advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in senior technology roles, with at least 5 years in enterprise, domain, or solution architecture leadership.
  • Proven track record of defining and governing enterprise-wide architecture frameworks, standards, and reference models.
  • Extensive experience with enterprise-level systems, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), integration strategies, and digital transformation initiatives.
  • Broad understanding of business, application, data, technology, and security architecture domains, and how they interconnect at an enterprise scale.
  • Strong knowledge of enterprise integration patterns, API ecosystems, data governance, and interoperability standards.
  • Deep understanding of risk, compliance, cybersecurity, and regulatory considerations across complex organizations.
  • Exceptional strategic and analytical skills, with the ability to connect technology decisions to long-term business outcomes.
  • Outstanding communication and influence skills, capable of engaging executives, business leaders, and technical stakeholders.
