Were hiring an AI builder at Applied AI.

If youve ever designed an agents failover by thinking what does this system do when the LLM returns the wrong tool call three times in a row - we should talk.

Most AI projects fail at deployment, not at modeling. The bottleneck is engineering judgment - knowing what to abstract, what to make autonomous, what to keep human-in-the-loop, what to monitor. We build agents that actually run for real operations companies. Im looking for someone who designs AI systems exceptionally well.

Attributes:

1. Youve shipped a multi-step agent system to real production. It failed in interesting ways. You learned from the failures.

2. You write the prompt, the eval, the failover, the dashboard yourself. No hand-offs.

3. You have informed opinions on agent design - framework vs raw, model choice per task, when to break a problem into more agents vs fewer.

4. Most of all you know when to use AI vs not.

Apply only if youre ok with all of these:

• You should be able to work in person out of our HSR office.
• This is the kind of work where youll think about a system over the weekend because you want to, not because anyone asks. If youre optimizing for clean work-life boundaries, this isnt the right fit. But, I can promise you that youll not work alone.
• This is not your typical engineering or FDE role. This is for someone who already designs AI systems exceptionally well. Strong backend engineering is the floor, not the bar.

About Applied AI Studio

Were an AI services studio focused on Autonomous operations. A key part of what we do is to understand the customers business processes, human agents, their KPIs and incentives. Then we map the process that needs to be automated and how a successful outcome looks. Then we get into building the agents that make these possible. We also run Applied AI Club, a community for builders and operators to learn and work with AI.

Your work

• You will be working with me, Bala Panneerselvam. We will be visiting customers together, diagnose problems and design solutions together.
• I will primarily lead the business conversations and act as the FDE for the customers.
• Your role will be to design the agents and systems that will be used by the customers
• And to build the platform and infrastructure that will run the internal org (Around 40% of our time goes into building internal tools and mechanisms today)
• Youll work with AI models on a daily basis, for coding and non-coding purposes.
• I will teach you all that you need to know about this business and the ability to break down problems from the business pov.
• You need to bring the deep technical skills that build reliable, scalable agentic systems.

The interview process

• You should expect this process to take ~ a week.
• There will be a phone call to understand what you look for and what we look for
• First in-person conversation to understand your background, mental models and your thinking process
• A large assignment that will take a few days to complete. Youre welcome to use all the AI tools you have to arrive at the solution.
• Post which we will have a final in-person conversation.
