Job Description

A Speech Language Therapist is a specialized healthcare professional responsible for evaluating, diagnosing, and treating individuals with communication and swallowing disorders. They work with patients of all ages, from infants to the elderly, helping them overcome difficulties related to speech, language, cognition, voice, and fluency. The role requires a deep understanding of human communication processes and the ability to develop personalized therapeutic strategies. Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and diagnose speech, language, voice, and swallowing disorders in patients.

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support comprehensive patient care.
  • Educate patients and their families on communication techniques and strategies.
  • Conduct language and communication assessments for diverse patient populations.
  • Monitor patient progress and adjust therapy plans as needed for effectiveness.
  • Provide counseling and support to patients with chronic communication disorders.
  • Document patient evaluations, treatment plans, and progress reports accurately.
  • Stay updated with advancements in speech-language pathology through continuing education.
  • Create engaging and effective therapy materials and activities for patients.
  • Advocate for patient needs and access to necessary speech-language services.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited institution.
  • Valid licensure to practice as a Speech Language Therapist in the state.
  • Certification from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) preferred.
  • Strong understanding of communication disorders and their treatment methodologies.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for interaction with patients and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to design and implement effective individualized therapy plans.
  • Experience working with diverse age groups, from children to older adults.
  • Proficiency in using speech-language therapy equipment and technology.
  • Demonstrated patience, empathy, and commitment to improving patient outcomes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for documentation and reporting.
