Job Description

The Medical Records Assistant is an integral role that ensures the efficient operation of healthcare facilities by maintaining and organizing patient records. This role requires meticulous attention to detail and an understanding of medical terminologies and procedures. As a Medical Records Assistant, you will be responsible for compiling, processing, and managing patient information for healthcare databases and information systems. You will work closely with medical staff to ensure the accuracy and confidentiality of patient records, in compliance with legal and regulatory standards. This position is ideal for individuals who are organized, detail-oriented, and possess strong communication skills to collaborate effectively within a medical team environment.


Responsibilities

  • Accurately organize and file patient medical records and documents.
  • Ensure patient information confidentiality and maintain HIPAA compliance.
  • Regularly update patient records with the latest treatment information.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to facilitate accurate data entry.
  • Verify and cross-check data entry in medical databases for errors.
  • Assist with the release of information requests and track their status.
  • Prepare and distribute monthly reports on patient record statuses.
  • Manage and safeguard physical and electronic patient record archives.
  • Coordinate with IT staff to troubleshoot medical records software issues.
  • Maintain a well-organized and efficient records management system.
  • Participate in training sessions to stay updated on health information technologies.
  • Respond to inquiries related to medical records and provide appropriate support.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required for this role.
  • Proficiency in medical records software and data entry is essential.
  • Strong understanding of medical terminologies and healthcare procedures.
  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting is highly preferred.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Able to handle confidential information with integrity and discretion.
  • Effective communication skills to liaise with medical and administrative staff.
