Job Description

The Hospital Receptionist plays a critical role in ensuring smooth operations and providing exceptional service within a healthcare facility. This position involves being the first point of contact for patients and visitors, which requires a professional and courteous demeanor at all times. Hospital receptionists are responsible for managing the front desk, answering inquiries, scheduling appointments, and processing patient information. They must work closely with other medical staff to ensure that the facility runs efficiently. A successful candidate for this position will be organized, excellent at multitasking, and adept at handling sensitive information with confidentiality. The role involves working in a fast-paced environment, where being proactive and demonstrating strong problem-solving abilities are crucial for success.


Responsibilities

  • Greet and assist patients and visitors with a friendly attitude.
  • Answer and direct phone calls to appropriate departments promptly.
  • Schedule and confirm patient appointments using electronic records.
  • Ensure all incoming patient information is accurately documented and processed.
  • Maintain the reception area in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Assist patients with completion of admission or discharge forms.
  • Communicate and coordinate with medical staff regarding patients' appointments.
  • Verify insurance information and obtain necessary pre-authorizations efficiently.
  • Handle patient and visitor complaints in a professional manner.
  • Provide general information about the hospital’s services and operating hours.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies and confidentiality regulations.
  • Operate office equipment, such as computers and copiers, competently.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional certification is a plus.
  • Previous experience in a receptionist or customer service role preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail are essential.
  • Proficient in using office software like Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential patient information responsibly.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays as needed.
