Job Description

A Marine Electrician 28N25 is a skilled professional responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems aboard ships and other maritime vessels. This role is critical to ensuring the safe and efficient operation of marine vessels' electrical components, including lighting, power distribution, navigation systems, and communication equipment. Marine Electricians must be adept at diagnosing and resolving electrical problems in complex, variable environments that can include different types of vessels ranging from cargo ships to naval warships. They work closely with other members of a ship's crew to ensure all electrical operations meet industry standards and compliance regulations. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of electrical theories, maritime safety standards, and the physical ability to work in a demanding onboard setting.


Responsibilities

  • Install and test electrical systems on various maritime vessels to ensure functionality.
  • Diagnose electrical problems using testing devices and generate effective solutions.
  • Interpret and follow blueprints and technical diagrams to ensure proper installations.
  • Maintain and repair wiring, control, and lighting systems on maritime vessels.
  • Inspect electrical components on vessels for compliance with safety and code regulations.
  • Collaborate with engineers and other ship personnel to solve electrical system issues.
  • Document all maintenance and repair work comprehensively for future reference.
  • Perform routine electrical maintenance to ensure vessel systems operate smoothly.
  • Ensure all electrical works comply with maritime safety standards and procedures.
  • Assist in the design and configuration of new electrical installations on maritime vessels.
  • Order and stock electrical components and supplies for ongoing and future projects.
  • Respond to emergency repairs effectively to reduce vessel downtime and ensure safety.

Requirements

  • Certification in electrical engineering or a related field from a recognized institution.
  • Extensive experience in electrical installation and repair on marine vessels.
  • Strong knowledge of maritime electrical codes and safety protocols.
  • Ability to interpret complex blueprints and technical diagrams accurately.
  • Proficiency in using electrical testing devices and diagnostic tools.
  • Physical ability to work in confined spaces and at heights on vessels.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and travel as needed for job requirements.
