Job Description

The Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Officer plays a crucial role in planning, implementing, monitoring, and optimizing occupational health, safety, and environmental programs to ensure compliance with regulatory standards. This role involves advising management on all aspects of workplace health, safety, and environmental systems, and helping to establish proactive measures to prevent workplace accidents and occupational illnesses. An HSE Officer is expected to lead, inspire, and support the workforce in safety compliance and create a culture where safety is a top priority. They will need to actively engage with employees at all levels to foster and maintain a safe work environment as well as manage any incidents effectively to limit risks and ensure minimal harm to individuals, infrastructure, and the environment.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive safety programs, policies, and procedures across the organization.
  • Conduct regular health, safety, and environmental inspections and audits to identify potential risks.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to management about HSE resources and policies.
  • Facilitate safety training and educational workshops to enhance employee awareness and compliance.
  • Ensure all safety protocols and procedures are in line with local and national regulations.
  • Coordinate emergency response plans in collaboration with emergency services professionals.
  • Analyze accident reports and statistics to identify patterns and recommend preventive measures.
  • Maintain records of incidents, inspections, and investigations to be used in future assessments.
  • Lead incident investigation teams and ensure evidence is collected and preserved correctly.
  • Monitor and manage hazardous waste disposal practices to safeguard the environment effectively.
  • Collaborate with departments to develop projects that incorporate safety, health, and environmental guidelines.
  • Ensure all safety equipment is inspected regularly and is in good working condition at all times.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in safety management, environmental science, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience working in health, safety, and environmental compliance.
  • In-depth understanding of regulatory procedures and safety practices within the industry.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to train and inspire others.
  • Proficiency in using safety management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Certification in occupational health and safety from a recognized certifying body preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects.
