Job Position Summary

Primary function of this job is to maintain proper accounting records for a portfolio of vessels and manage the relationship with the Ship Owner regarding vessel accounting matters.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

• Wholly responsible for day-to-day accounting for portfolio of vessels which includes various activities like raising the fund requests, checking vendor invoices from accounting aspect, review portage bill and portage bill back received from the vessel, prepare month-end adjustment entries, etc. Vessel Accounting Officer handles vessels with moderate complexity on requirements and reporting.
• Maintain close and effective communication with Clients to understand and meet their requirements in terms of financial reporting for the vessels
• Prepare monthly vessel financial reports, cash flow statements, budget variance reports, etc. and submit to the Technical departments and to the vessel owners within given timeframe. Perform Balance Sheet Account/Fund Balance Reconciliation.
• Submit the finalized vessel financial reports to the Ship owners on time, responding to their Ship owners’ queries, ensure all reporting requirements are thoroughly met, etc. Promptly responds to ship owners’ queries, if any.
• Assist the reporting manager in regular monthly MS reporting activities like Report to MD, Budget Variance Report, etc. from time to time. Ensure timely submission on reports and responses externally with clients and internally with other departments
• Any other ad-hoc reporting work assigned by the reporting manager.

Relationship (mostly Internal and or External) and Nature of Communication:

INTERNAL:

• All internal departments like Technical, Manning, Quality Safety, Purchasing, etc. on vessel accounting matters

EXTERNAL:

• Ship Owners on various matters like reporting, clarification on queries, raising the fund requests and settlement of accounts on periodical basis

Job Experience, Functional Knowledge and Qualifications:

• Degree in Accounting & Finance or related fields
• 2+ years of experience in core accounting and preparation of financial reports, prior experience in Shipping Industry is an advantage, but not required
• Solid knowledge of Financial Reports, Cash Flow Reports, Budget V/s Actual Reports, etc.
• Working knowledge of ERP like Oracle, SAP, etc. is preferred
• Experience in implementing digital solutions like accounting automations, Invoicing workflows, PowerBI, Tableau, etc.
• Experience with Ship Management / Shipping Industry is an added advantage.
• Experience user of Microsoft Suite like Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.
• Good command of written and spoken English
