Job Description

A global company in Mandaluyong is seeking a Labour and Employment Counsel to join their team, offering you the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on workplace culture and legal compliance. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in an environment where your expertise in employment law will be valued and your advice will shape key business decisions.

You will be at the heart of ensuring fair treatment for employees, supporting management with strategic guidance, and fostering a harmonious work environment. If you are looking for a position where your interpersonal skills and legal acumen can truly make a difference, this is the ideal next step in your career.

What Youll Do

As Labour and Employment Counsel, you will be entrusted with guiding the organisation through the complexities of employment law while nurturing positive relationships across all levels of staff. Your day-to-day activities will involve drafting essential HR documents that set the tone for workplace conduct, conducting sensitive investigations into employee concerns, representing the company during disputes or negotiations, and providing strategic advice on major organisational changes. Success in this role means being able to anticipate potential risks before they arise, communicate clearly with both management and employees, and foster an environment where everyone feels respected and heard. You will have the chance to collaborate closely with various departments while ensuring that every decision aligns with best practices in labour law.

  • Advise the organisation on local labour and employment laws by proactively identifying risks and recommending compliant strategies.
  • Assist with international employee transfers and global mobility matters by navigating cross-border employment regulations.
  • Conduct fair, confidential investigations into employee misconduct, harassment claims, and workplace concerns.
  • Draft, review, and update employment contracts, handbooks, non-compete agreements, and HR policies to ensure compliance with current laws.
  • Handle disputes between employees and the organisation with professionalism, focusing on equitable resolutions.
  • Lead employment-related compliance initiatives to ensure adherence to statutory requirements and internal standards.
  • Offer strategic legal advice on workforce matters such as restructurings, layoffs, mergers, acquisitions, and organisational changes.
  • Provide day-to-day legal guidance on employee relations issues and HR decision-making.
  • Support large-scale workforce reduction programmes with a balance of legal compliance and employee wellbeing.

What You Bring

Your background as Labour and Employment Counsel should include substantial hands-on experience navigating complex legal frameworks related to employment. You bring not only technical expertise but also a genuine passion for creating workplaces where fairness prevails. Your ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing will enable you to translate intricate legal concepts into practical guidance for managers and staff alike. You understand how important it is to approach each situation with empathy while remaining steadfast in upholding regulatory standards. Your experience within BPO or Shared Services settings gives you valuable insight into industry-specific challenges; meanwhile your active Bar membership ensures you remain up-to-date on evolving legislation. By joining this team, you’ll have ample opportunity to share your knowledge through training sessions while learning from others who value collaboration just as much as you do.

  • Active Bar membership, demonstrating commitment to professional ethics and continued legal compliance practice.
  • At least 5 years of proven legal experience, including a minimum of 3 years specialising in labour and employment matters.
  • Capacity to manage multiple cases and priorities simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development through continuous learning, training, and industry seminars.
  • Exceptional written communication skills for drafting employment contracts, policies, agreements, and investigation reports.
  • Experience conducting fair, structured workplace investigations with clear, unbiased findings.
  • Experience in BPO or Shared Services environments is highly preferred due to their distinct employment frameworks.
  • Sound judgement in handling complex issues such as restructurings, international transfers, and sensitive employee matters.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills to handle confidential concerns with discretion and empathy.
