The Data Conversion Consultant is responsible for planning, developing, and executing data migration and transformation processes from legacy systems to new platforms. This role ensures data integrity, accuracy, and completeness throughout the conversion lifecycle and collaborates closely with implementation teams, clients, and developers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze legacy data structures and develop data mapping specifications.
  • Design and implement ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes using tools like SSIS, T-SQL, or Python.
  • Write and maintain SQL scripts, stored procedures, and conversion utilities.
  • Conduct mock conversions, dry runs, and final production data loads.
  • Collaborate with clients and internal teams to gather data requirements and resolve data-related issues.
  • Create and maintain documentation including data dictionaries, process maps, and conversion logs.
  • Perform data validation, cleansing, and deduplication.
  • Provide post-conversion support and troubleshoot data discrepancies.
  • Participate in Agile sprint planning and story refinement sessions.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3–8 years of experience in data conversion, ETL development, or database engineering.
  • Proficiency in SQL (T-SQL, PL/SQL), SSIS, and data modeling tools.
  • Experience with relational databases such as SQL Server, Oracle, or PostgreSQL.
  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git, TFS).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both technical and non-technical.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with CRM, Association Management System, or LMS data migrations.
  • Knowledge of open-source conversion tools and scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell).
  • Certifications such as PMP, Oracle, or Microsoft SQL Server are a plus.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
