Staff Software Development Engineer - Backend

Job Summary: As a Staff Software Engineer, you will lead the design and development of core backend systems that power large-scale, high-performance platforms. You’ll own complex projects end to end, operate with autonomy, and play a key role in shaping the architecture and future direction of high-throughput, low-latency systems. This role is ideal for engineers who thrive on solving challenging distributed systems problems and mentoring others toward engineering excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable, fault-tolerant backend systems that power JioStar’s tech stacK
• Own end-to-end delivery of complex backend projects, from technical design to deployment and monitoring
• Drive architectural decisions and influence long-term engineering strategy for the team
• Build systems with strong observability and monitoring, ensuring system health, uptime, and fast incident response
• Continuously evaluate and adopt relevant technologies
• Take ownership of operational excellence, including performance tuning, incident response, and root cause analysis
• Mentor junior engineers, conduct technical deep dives and code reviews, and foster a culture of knowledge sharing

Skills and attributes for success:

• Proficiency in Java, Golang, or Python
• Experience designing and building distributed systems at scale
• Strong understanding of storage systems, query performance, and caching strategies
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred), messaging systems (Kafka), and CI/CD pipelines
• Proven ability to work autonomously, prioritize tasks, and manage delivery timelines in a fast-paced environment
• You are passionate about growing engineers and leading by example
• Curious about how advertising systems work and how to optimize them for user and business outcomes

Preferred education and experience:

• Bachelors/masters in computer science or a related field with 6-9 years of development experience
