Job Description

Location: Bangalore - Indraprastha, India

Thales is a global technology leader trusted by governments, institutions, and enterprises to tackle their most demanding challenges. From quantum applications and artificial intelligence to cybersecurity and 6G innovation, our solutions empower critical decisions rooted in human intelligence. Operating at the forefront of aerospace and space, cybersecurity and digital identity, we’re driven by a mission to build a future we can all trust.

Present in India since 1953, Thales is headquartered in Noida and has other operational offices and sites spread across Delhi, Gurugram, Bengaluru and Mumbai, among others. Over 2200 employees are working with Thales and its joint ventures in India. Since the beginning, Thales has been playing an essential role in India’s growth story by sharing its technologies and expertise in Defence, Aerospace and Cyber & Digital sectors. Thales has two engineering competence centres in India - one in Noida focused on Cyber & Digital business, while the one in Bengaluru focuses on hardware, software and systems engineering capabilities for both the civil and defence sectors, serving global needs. The Group has also established an MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul) facility in Gurugram to provide comprehensive avionics maintenance and repair services to Indian airlines and support the growth of the local aviation industry.

Thales is looking for a curious and driven Security Researcher to join our Threat Research Group in India.

Our team is at the forefront of the AI revolution, dedicated to securing the next generation of applications. We are currently on a mission to build and refine our AI Firewall (AIFW) solution, ensuring that AI-driven enterprises stay protected against emerging LLM-based threats.

What makes this position unique?

  • The Mission: You will be a core contributor to our AI security initiatives, specifically focused on analyzing how AI tools and evaluation frameworks can be both a target and a defense mechanism.
  • The Collaboration: You will work in a tight feedback loop with our Data Science team, bridging the gap between raw security research and production-grade machine learning models.
  • The Impact: Your research wont just sit in a report; you will generate the actual prompts, datasets, and logic that our product uses to mitigate real-world AI vulnerabilities.

What will you do?

  • Analyze AI Ecosystems: Deep-dive into AI tools, LLM frameworks, and AI evaluation suites to identify security gaps and operational strengths.
  • Prompt Engineering & Red Teaming: Design and test sophisticated prompts to evaluate model robustness and develop defensive "system prompts" for our AIFW product.
  • Bridge Research & Data Science: Translate security findings into actionable insights for our Data Science team to help train and refine detection algorithms.
  • Vulnerability Research: Explore sophisticated automated attacks and "jailbreak" techniques to keep our defense layers one step ahead.

What are we looking for?

A technical "engine" - someone who is obsessed with how things work under the hood and is eager to apply security fundamentals to the world of Artificial Intelligence.

Requirements:

  • A passion for Cybersecurity: Foundational knowledge in web application security, penetration testing, or cloud security.
  • OWASP for AI Literacy: Solid understanding of the OWASP Top 10 for LLM Applications (e.g., Prompt Injection, Sensitive Information Disclosure, Model Denial of Service, and Insecure Output Handling).
  • The "AI-First" Approach: Familiarity with modern LLMs and experience evaluating them for safety, bias, or security vulnerabilities.
  • Coding Proficiency: Strong JavaScript (essential) and Python (highly preferred for AI/Data Science collaboration).
  • Data Literacy: Ability to work with datasets and AI evaluation tools; comfortable analyzing model outputs to improve product logic.
  • Problem Solver: The ability to take a broad mission - like "analyze this new AI evaluation tool" - and break it down into a technical execution plan.
  • Academic Background: B.Sc./M.Sc. in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience in security research.

At Thales, we’re committed to fostering a workplace where respect, trust, collaboration, and passion drive everything we do. Here, you’ll feel empowered to bring your best self, thrive in a supportive culture, and love the work you do. Join us, and be part of a team reimagining technology to create solutions that truly make a difference – for a safer, greener, and more inclusive world.
